Hey there, I'm Macky, and even though I can't use words like other kids, I've got a whole lot to say! You see, I'm on a special journey, one that's filled with challenges and victories that make me who I am. I might be just 4 and a half years old, but let me tell you, I'm a little warrior, fighting battles every day to share my world with all of you!
First things first, let's talk about Childhood Apraxia of Speech. It's like my brain has a little secret code that's hard to crack, and that makes speaking a bit tricky. Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a complex neurological condition where basically I have words in my head and know what I want to say but I cant make my muscles work to say them. They may not come out at all or sound may come out but it isnt the words I am trying to say. But don't think for a second that I've let that slow me down. Nope, not me! I'm in therapy five whole days a week, working with amazing people who help me put together the puzzle pieces of speech. It's like learning a dance, but my mouth sometimes doesn't want to follow the steps. I don't give up, though. I'm a fighter, and I'm determined to find my voice. I work hard, more hours than adults work a week at a full time job, at just 3 and a half years old, all so I will have a shot at communicating one day with my voice or AAC and my mommy, my daddy, and my family are so proud!
Oh, and there's more to my story. I'm neurodivergent, have other language delays, and got some hearing stuff going on too. It's like my senses are tuned in a little differently, and the world can be quite the adventure. But guess what? I find beauty and joy in everything around me. Those colors, sounds, and little moments that some might miss – they light up my world. I think the alphabet and numbers are the coolest and those crunchy leaves on the floor you may not notice, well if I could talk I would tell you all the beauty and magic you are missing by not seizing every opportunity to crumble them in your hair.
I've been through some big things already. Surgery, yeah, I've been there. And those language delays? They don't define me. I'm writing my own story, and it's filled with courage and determination. Every day, I'm here, showing up and giving it my all. You know why? Because I know there's so much I want to share, so much I want to tell you.
Sometimes, I use my hands to show you what's in my heart. I've got the best giggles that can make anyone smile. And those eyes of mine? They've seen a lot, and they've got a world of stories to share.
So, here's the thing: I'm not just a kid with challenges. I'm a kid with dreams, with laughter, with love bursting from every corner of my heart. I might not use words like everyone else, but I've got a voice that's uniquely mine. I'm learning every day to find that voice, fighting my battles, and finding new ways to let you know what's inside. I know my mommy and daddy wont stop fighting until my voice is found and heard by everyone around and there are so many other people fighting for me to like you!
Thank you for joining me on this adventure. You're going to see me conquer mountains, dance through struggles, and embrace every beautiful moment. I'm Macky, and I'm here to remind you that nothing can hold me back, because my spirit is as unstoppable as the sunrise.
