Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!
I will walk for Apraxia Kids because my sweet grandson,Luca, was diagnosed with childhood apraxia of speech while he was part of early intervention. In so many ways he is a typical almost 4 year old who loves all things Spiderman, books, vehicles, doing art work, going to preschool, riding his bike and cooking. He is a loving big brother and the apple of my eye (along with his sister Sonny).
I have watched him during speech therapy which he attends 3 times a week. He is a hard worker and is making tremendous progress thanks to his attentive parents and wonderful therapists. It's a lot for a young child to attend to this work so intensely and so often. It's also a lot of work for his parents who show so much patience and caring through it all.
I walk to support all children diagnosed with apraxia of speech - the Apraxia Stars. To show these children they are not alone and to acknowledge all the hard work they must do to overcome communication challenges that affect their day-to-day lives.
I walk to raise funds for the mission of Apraxia Kids – to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families; facilitating community engagement and outreach; and investing in the future through advocacy and research.
Please help me meet my fundraising goal by making a donation now or by joining our team. You, too, can make an impact for children and families affected by apraxia!
I believe, “Every child deserves a voice”.
