"Grant is a former 25 weeker born at 1 lb 4 oz. Grant spent 100 days in the NICU at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. The journey of being born so early did not end once Grant left the NICU. Grant has spent the past 6 years working hard in various therapies. Grant was diagnosed with Autism at 2 years old. He is considered nonverbal. Grant also has a diagnosis of severe apraxia of speech. Grant said the word "dad" for the first time at 5 years old. Currently at 6 years old, Grant is now learning how to sound out each letter of the alphabet. We look forward to walk for Grant, but also walk for other children that have overcome the difficult, daily obstacles of living with a speech disorder
Why I walk for Apraxia Kids!"- Courtney
I walk to support all children diagnosed with apraxia of speech - our Apraxia Stars. To show these children they are not alone and to acknowledge all the hard work they must do to overcome communication challenges that affect their day-to-day lives.
I walk to raise funds for the mission of Apraxia Kids – to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families; facilitating community engagement and outreach; and investing in the future through advocacy and research.
Please help me meet my fundraising goal by making a donation now or by joining our team. You, too, can make an impact for children and families affected by apraxia!
I believe, “Every child deserves a voice”.
