Welcome to Thomas's page for the Walk for Apraxia.
We are going to Walk for Apraxia to show our support for children in my community with apraxia, our shining stars. We walk to show these stars they are not alone.
Every dollar raised helps support Apraxia Kids. I believe in the work Apraxia Kids does to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia so that each child is afforded their best opportunity to develop to their full potential.
We as a family had an opportunity to experience this first hand this summer. Thomas spent 7 weeks in Philly with Temple University participating in a research study and received therapy. He made strong gains that it encuraged us as a family that we need to advocate stronger for what works for him. So for the first time in or almost 4 years of knowing aboutthis disability we werr very clear on HIS needs and not trusting the system entirely. We found that his school SLP has already been doing this particular treatment protocol, so we focused on our private SLP. Had to go to the director of the therapy group but we are going to do what we saw works.
In Thomas's 7 weeks at Temple University it was the first time he realy made connections to kids similar to him. We cant thank the CASTLE team enough for this opportunity and will be glad to participate in future studys.
I need your help. Would you please consider making a donation? Your donation goes to fund amazing programs like iPads for children who need it to communicate, parent and speech therapist workshops, research, and a program to assist families in need with speech therapy costs.
Thank you again for your support in this very important cause.
