Welcome to my personal fundraising page for the Walk for Apraxia.
I Walk for Apraxia to show my support for children in my community with apraxia, our shining stars. I Walk to show these stars they are not alone.
Garrett is one of these shining stars. When he was 17 months old he had his first speech evaluation. He started speech through Early Intervention shortly afterwards. He continued receiving speech services through our school district until he turned 4. At that time he was passing all of the evaluations but I still knew something wasn't right. Finally this past December we took him for another evaluation where he was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Finally we had an answer! But the hard work was just beginning. Garrett attends weekly speech therapy sessions and practices everyday with us at home. I have had to educate myself on exactly what apraxia is. The Apraxia Kids website and Facebook group have become my go-to resources. The website has helped me learn what apraxia is and the Facebook group has been invaluable to me, helping me realize that we are not alone in this. So I walk for Garrett and all the other shining stars out there because every child deserves a voice.
Every dollar raised helps support Apraxia Kids. I believe in the work Apraxia Kids does to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia so that each child is afforded their best opportunity to develop to their full potential.
I need your help. Would you please consider making a donation? Your donation goes to fund amazing programs like iPads for children who need it to communicate, parent and speech therapist workshops, research, and a program to assist families in need with speech therapy costs.
Thank you again for your support in this very important cause.
