Welcome to my personal fundraising page for the Walk for Apraxia.
Every dollar raised helps support Apraxia Kids. I believe in the work Apraxia Kids does to strengthen the supp koort systems in the lives of children with apraxia so that each child is afforded their best opportunity to develop to their full potential.
This will be our 1st Apraxia walk and we are looking forward to it. It would mean a lot to Alyssa and us , if you could take a few hours from your saturday to walk with us. Many of you may not know our story. Alyssa only had 1 word in her vocabulary and that was "mom". It was tough but at the same time, I felt that bond with her because she was only calling out for me. Many times I would cry , blaming myself for this, wishing she could just start talking overnight. A month before her 2 and birthday, juan and myself took her to Kaiser for a speech evaluation. She did a hearing test and an evaluation for autism and both came back with a good result. On her exact birthday, we got the speech therapy approval and I made the call the same day to find a location to start therapy. She learned sign language at that time and it helped. Then we moved and found a new location that has helped her and us out, tremendously. She was diagnosed at 3 1/2 with Apraxia of Speech. That broke our hearts to know it will be part of her life but she will not let that stop her. With the services she is receiving, she is now able to communicate so much easier. Thanks for reading our story. Hope to see you October 26th.
