Welcome to Team Deacon's fundraising page!
As many of you know, our son Deacon is suspected to have Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), a motor speech disorder that results in children having great difficulty planning and producing the muscle movements of the tongue, lips, jaw and palate needed for speech. We are participating in the 2019 North Texas Walk for Apraxia on Saturday, October 26 to celebrate our son's progress and to give back to an organization that does so much for families impacted by Apraxia.
While Deacon has had a tremendous year in terms of progress, his journey with CAS is one that will continue to for years to come. We are so fortunate to collaborate with therapists, teachers, friends and family to help him every step of the way. The key to overcoming CAS is based in early and frequent intervention, typically via private therapy, and sadly most insurance providers do not offer anywhere close to full coverage. We want to help ensure that all families dealing with CAS have access to the resources they need to help their children find their voices. Every dollar raised goes directly to Apraxia Kids to help fund amazing programs like iPads for children who need it to communicate, parent and speech therapist workshops, research, and a program to assist families in need with speech therapy costs.
This is our second year to participate in the North Texas Walk for Apraxia. Last year Team Deacon raised the most money in North Texas - over $10,000! Because of our efforts, our community was gifted an Apraxia specialist speaker from whom we learned many new findings and techniques as it relates to CAS and literacy.
We would love to have your support, either by joining our team and walking with us or donating to support Apraxia Kids.

P.S. For those in the Dallas area - the "walk" is more of a family fun day! This year it will take place in McKinney at the Myers Park Show Barn where there will be face painters, games, a sno cone truck, chik-fil-a, pizza, a bubble bus, balloon artists and more. Plus a special ceremony to celebrate all of the incredible work our Apraxia Stars do each and every day. We would LOVE for you to join us!
