2019 Chicago Walk for Apraxia

Nathan's Voice

Welcome to our team page for the Walk for Apraxia.

We walk to bring awareness to Childhood Apraxia of Speech. As many of you may or may not know Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a neurological speech disorder. We walk to bring awareness to this disorder as it is rare and commonly unknown. Our son Nathan is a fun, loving, and intelligent boy who was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech around 2 and a half years old. While most children learn to speak without effort children like Nathan struggle to produce sounds, syllables and words. Although Nathan fully understands language, at 5 years old he remains nonverbal. His difficulty lies in planning and coordinating movements with his lips, tongue, and jaw. With continued speech therapy, hardwork, and prayers we hope Nathan will soon find his voice...until then we will continue to be his voice! Please join us in bringing awareness to Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Every dollar raised helps support Apraxia Kids. I believe in the work Apraxia Kids does to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia so that each child is afforded their best opportunity to develop to their full potential.

Your donation goes to fund amazing programs like iPads for children who need it to communicate, parent and speech therapist workshops, research, and a program to assist families in need with speech therapy costs.

Thank you again for your support in this very important cause.
