Welcome to Team Mya's Walk for Apraxia Page!
When Mya was born, there were complications during labor and delivery which resulted in Mya having to stay in the NICU for 17 days due to having seizures for her first 2 days of life. Fast forward, Mya is now a thriving 5 (almost 6) year old and is loving Kindergarten! Over the last 5 years, we have been monitoring Mya's health and development and she is truly our warrior princess! We discovered that Mya has Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) which is a motor speech disorder where children have great difficulty planning and producing the muscle movements of the tongue, lips, jaw and palate needed for speech.
Apraxia Kids is the ONLY national non-profit organization working to raise awareness about apraxia, providing reliable information, and funding resources to help children find their voice. We are so grateful for all of Mya's therapists, teachers, friends and family that have helped her get to where she is now! She has truly come a long way and we would not be where we are today without you!
On October 26th, 2019 we will be "walking" for Mya and all of the Apraxia stars, supporters, and volunteers! the "Walk" is symbolic- it is more of an event. There will be princess and cartoon characters dressed up, face painting, bounce houses, etc. Just really a fun event for the whole family and to honor all of the Apraxia stars including our sweet Mya Jaide! So no actual walking involved here :)
Venue: Myers Park Show Barn

Every dollar raised helps support Apraxia Kids. We believe in the work Apraxia Kids does to strengthen the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia so that each child is afforded their best opportunity to develop to their full potential. Your donation goes to fund amazing programs like iPads for children who need it to communicate, parent and speech therapist workshops, research, and a program to assist families in need with speech therapy costs.
